Heutzutage stellen sich im Bereich Architektur vor alle historische Städte der Ukraine viele aktuelle Fragen, oft von besonderer Schärfe, die kompetente und baldige Lösungen verlangen, von denen abhängt, ob diese Städte mit ihren alten Stadtvierteln weiterhin „historisch“ bleiben, oder diese im postsowjetischen Stil, der nicht unbedingt die Entstehung der architektonischen Meisterwerke erwarten lässt, bebaut werden.
